Through Conference-wide scholarships, we empower
and equip people for future ministries. There
are many opportunities to create or expand
individual scholarships throughout our Annual
Conference. Those listed below are some examples
of scholarships to which you may choose to
contribute. Or you may want to set up a
scholarship of your own: perhaps to a specific
seminary, for clergy to attend continuing
education events, for church members in your
area to participate in training events, to help
high school students go to college, or for some
other purpose that arises out of your own
experience, passion and faith.
If you would like personal assistance in making
a gift to any of the scholarships on this page,
or in setting up a scholarship of your own,
contact
us, and we would be
glad to guide you through the process. |

The Patton
Fund |
|
The Patton Fund provides "seed money" for ministry projects
throughout our Annual Conference that are innovative and
pioneering (rather than ongoing projects or ongoing staff
support). Usually, no project is funded for more than two years.
Out of the Patton funds, 20% provides Conference Board of
Ordained Ministry scholarships, 40% empowers mission within our
Annual Conference, and 40% supports church extension. Our
Conference Board of Missions determines Patton Fund awards,
which the Foundation distributes. |

The Bishop Melvin G. Talbert
Endowment Fund |
In
grateful response to Bishop Melvin G. Talbert's eight years of
leadership among us, members of this Annual Conference
established the Bishop Melvin G. Talbert Endowment Fund upon his
retirement in June of 2000.Since then, the Endowment Fund has
benefited three vital ministries. First, the Bishop Melvin G.
Talbert Theological Fund for Africa university supports a
four-year scholarship for a female theological student at Africa
University. The second provides temporary shelter for young
girls at extreme risk, at Ethelou D. Talbert Shelter for Girls
in Manila, the Philippines. The third set-up a California-Nevada
Bishop Discretionary Fund for Outreach Ministries, to empower
individuals and groups to address human need, particularly with
cultural, gender, and other discrimination issues. |

The Colin
Knoch Fund |
The Colin Knoch Scholarship was established as a designated
endowment in memory of Colin Knoch, student at Fall River
Junior-Senior High
School. The purpose of this scholarship is "to assist worthy
young people who are graduates of the Fall River Junior-Senior High School to
obtain an education at colleges in the United States." A
preference is given to American Indian applicants and students
must maintain a grade point average of 2.0 or more. Our Annual
Conference Board of Ordained Ministry awards the Colin Knoch
Fund and the Foundation distributes the awards on its behalf. |
